After reading several blogs after St. Patricks day I felt like kind of a "loser mom" that I didn't ransack the house to look like leprechauns had been there, or color the milk green...I bought Lucky Charms though...that's as far as I went. Also I don't really get St. Patricks day; most people I talk to say they hated it growing up because they got pinched.
Anyway, back to my original story. My dad is a little bit of a prankster and I always enjoyed April Fool's Day growing up...even more after I got married....one April Fools day I pranked that I was pregnant...that was awesome, I'm pretty sure my parents wanted to punch me, it was awe-some. So I decided I would do some good natured pranks on Eva this year...just to get her in the spirit of the day.

I read several blogs suggesting food that looked different than what it was going to taste like. In my Family Fun magazine there were several recipes to try. I opted for the cupcakes. They of course are actually meatloaf with colored potatoes.

She may looked disappointed but it's just a bad picture. She didn't even flinch...and proceeded to eat two.

Then it was on to Eva's April Fools "lunch." Just so you know, I did this for 2 and a half hours this morning instead of showering...and it felt good. I felt like, this is what I'm supposed to be doing for my kids...making a memorable experience.
Anyway, here are my "chicken strips" and "peas" (sugar wafer cookies in peanut butter rolled in crushed corn flakes and laffy taffy's rolled into balls). They said fish sticks in the mag. but I knew Eva wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole if I said fish...so I improvised.

In honor of April Fools I told her she could have her dessert first...muuah haa haa.
She always eats the frosting first

I convinced her that the "cake" itself was super choclately and wonderful so even though she didn't think the "frosting" was good she thought she'd give it a try, what a nice daughter I have.

Oh yeah!

I couldn't have asked for a better reaction.

I even convinced her that maybe that was a "bad bite" and to try it again...this was too good, my eyes were watering because I was laughing so hard!

She had enough so she went in for the "peas"

I think she started thinking something was up...

When she crunched into the "chicken" it was hilarious, it was so loud, I wish I could have gotten her immediate reaction but I didn't click fast enough.

This is when I told her April Fools! She's such a good sport! I really learned today that she has a good sense of humor and didn't get upset over sill things.

I told her this morning we were having cookies for breakfast then of course April Fools...that's when I explained to her what it was all about. She thought it sounded like a fun day.
On the way to school we thought of silly pranks she could tell her friends and teachers.
I think she had a fun day with her pranks and I look forward to having a fellow pranker in the house in years to come!

AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I am really impressed, those look so great!!! I wish I was creative like that - I think I may need to try this on a belated 'april fools' I haven't done ANYTHING today.
That was HILARIOUS! You are the coolest mom of all time. AND the fact that you have it documented with pictures makes it even better! I hope you printed out this entry.
Wow- now I feel like a loser mom. That was awesome! I read that you made chicken fingers and peas and thought, "Yeah, that's exactly what it looks like. Where's the joke?" Well done!
